How Does it work?

What volunteers do:

Based on their skills and experience, volunteers can be interpreters, translators, both. Interpreters & translators both act as conduits of meaning between two parties that do not speak the same language; and interpreter uses spoken language (or signed) and a translator uses written language.

As a volunteer interpreter, you will be called upon to remotely help an English-speaking individual properly communicate with a limited-English individual. As a translator, you will help translate written information from English into a non-English language or vice versa.

What are the requirements to be a volunteer?

  • A minimum of 40-hours of interpreter training
  • Experience as a professional interpreter
  • Dual-language proficiency
  • A cell phone OR a computer with a high-quality microphone, camera & stable internet connection

What is the commitment?

None! You can always deny a volunteer request, no questions asked. When you apply to volunteer, you will select the maximum number of appointments you would like per month, we will never exceed that.
